My Newborn loves to be held...and I can't get anything done.

My newborn (4 weeks old) loves to be held or just close to me. I swear she wakes up and starts crying if I leave the room. My oldest child was not like this so I'm a little at a loss. Sometimes (not often) she will lay alone and look around without me holding her but then she will start crying for me to pick her up. A few occasions I've to let her cry in order to fix her bottle or finish a task.

Can anyone give me some suggestions for what may be the cause of this? I've read that you can't spoil a baby at this age. So with eliminating that possibility, please give me some advice?

Please enjoy this time. My son would never let me put him down without protest... LOUD protest. And I am the type of person who can't really relax unless my house is clean and organized. So I spent the first 6 months with him so stressed out because dishes were all over the house and laundry needed to be collected and washed... not to mention I use cloth diapers and they needed washing too... and I breast feed him so I felt like a cow at the milkhouse all day and all night. He just wanted to be held and nursed ALL DAY. Now he's able to pull up and climb and walk along funiture so he's much more independant and I kind of wish he'd just cuddle me. Some babies are just like that. They want to be with you learning about you and what you do. The sling suggestion is a great one and I suggest hotslings.com. You can carry your baby in it all day and you won't be sore! It's great for shopping trips too.

Most of the time I carried both of my boys for the first 4 months or so in slings or mei tai's (pronounced may-tie) and was able to get things done with only some minor difficulty and some backache (esp. with DS2 wo weighed 20lbs at 3 mo!).  They seemed to start to out grow things about the time they learned to sit up on their own, and by 7 or 8 months when they started scooting and crawling around I didn't have to pack them hardly at all.  Both boys are snuggly, but not clingy.
